Julian Sprung-Nano Aquariums, Past, Present and Future

Previous--Index--Next

Julian Sprung talked in a nice steady stream for an hour. He could have gone on and on and most of us wouldnt have minded a bit. He took us for a little bit of a timeline, complete with pics on his nano tanks over the years. To say it was interesting is an understatement.

He talked about how Terrariums would be very close to what is trying to be achieved in nano tanks, even with some of the same challenges as per size requirements of the things we put inside. Oxygenation and temperature control are some of the biggest challenges we are faced with. In 1988 he said he removed all outside filtration and just had good water movement and surprise! It was a big success. He talked about using chaetomorpha for filtration and activated carbon on a regular basis. Lighting can be accomplished with spiral daylight bulbs and if you live in a geographic area suitable to it, sunlight from a windowsill will even work.
